How I Designed Tiara & Michael’s Wedding

Photographer details linked.

When Tiara and Michael approached me to help design their dream wedding day, I was so excited! They were going to have an early November wedding at Wayfarers Chapel with the reception at Harlyne J. Norris Pavilion. I started by asking if they had a color scheme in mind and then getting an idea for their overall style. They originally told me they’d want a green and white color scheme with simple details along with elegance.

Above was my first pass at a mood board. A lot of white and green with gold accents and a touch of warm neutral tones. Michael originally loved the idea of a green suit, so I planned the look around that. I recommended that Michael go try on some green tuxes to get an idea of which tone of green he felt most confident in, but while shopping around, he ended up falling in love with a maroon suit instead. With that in mind, I knew we would have to make some revisions to the overall color scheme! I decided to start with the bridal party.

This was the final look! Tiara still wanted green incorporated, but it was important to avoid a Christmas color scheme. I achieved this by adding in some subtle rust orange accents in the florals and keeping the groomsmen suits more neutral. We tied the bridesmaids into the groomsmen by having 2 of the bridesmaids match the groomsmen colors. The groomsmen would have maroon ties to match the groom.

To be honest, if I were to go back and make a few changes, I would’ve ordered a swatch of the dresses (the neutral dress ended up looking a bit more mauve) and I would’ve ordered a bouquet mockup as some of the florals were a bit more vibrant orange than I had planned. Overall, the look was still good and we definitely avoided that Christmas vibe!

Once the bridal party was nailed down, it was time to finalize the overall decor! In my latest mood board, I photoshopped some rust floral accents into the centerpieces as well as a maroon drapery over a gold frame that would go behind the sweetheart table. Maroon was the pop in the decor with rust orange being the accent. Neutral tones were worked in through various colored candles, and gold details brought the whole thing together!
